Seeing how seamless Textastic now works with Working Copy gives me hope that the program's author is open to such possibilities. However, sharing text files between these two programs is clunky and it would be so much nicer if I could code and execute remote instructions entirely within the Textastic environment. For now, my coding workflow relies on Textastic 90 percent of the time while falling back to Coda 10 percent of the time, mostly for its preview and built-in SSH terminal support. That would elevate Textastic to a full soup-to-nuts interactive development environment. Either that, or work within the iOS developer apps community to see if any are willing to step up to the plate the way that Anders Borum did with his must-have Working Copy app, and provide an SSH app that can be hooked in the same way. Given that the app already supports the secure file transfer protocol (SFTP), adding a terminal window to this SSH feature shouldn't be too much to ask for. One feature I would really like to see included in the next release of the product is something that another superb text editing environment, Coda (an iOS app oriented toward web application development) currently has is a built-in SSH terminal. Turn your iOS device into a tool and start getting work done. Using these special characters also comes in handy when employing Textastic’s Find and Replace function, since the feature supports regular expression searches for more precise results. Buffer Editor Perfect code and text editor for iOS. After a while, this selection process becomes second nature. Swiping toward the intended character will generate it within the document. Even though these special keys are tiny on an iPhone screen, selecting these virtual keys are intuitive thanks to the way they can be tapped on, expanding to a larger size of the various characters on the key. Both the iPhone and iPad feature a custom row of keys on the soft keyboard that provides access to the most common programming characters such as angle and square brackets, hash and vertical bar symbols, and even multiple tab indentations. ![]() Too bad it’s only available on the iPad version. This page is powered by a knowledgeable community that helps you make an informed decision. 'Great productivity' is the primary reason people pick Vim over the competition. But when an external keyboard is too bulky or unavailable, the navigation wheel sure comes in handy. Vim, Textastic, and Coda for iOS are probably your best bets out of the 6 options considered. That said, the optimal Textastic experience is on an iPad Pro using Apple’s Smart Keyboard (Textastic supports additional programmer-centric keyboard shortcuts by holding down the Command or control key on an external keyboard). You can also invoke a cursor navigation wheel on the iPad for more exact directional movements by performing a two finger tap within the editor. Swiping left or right with one finger on the screen moves the text cursor one character, two fingers moves it one word and three fingers one section or paragraph at a time. files at the same time (or multi-window usage as Textastic is working on). ![]() Codiad has the most attractive user interface that comes with three panels includes right, left, and central panel and each of them has different functions.Navigating text elements on an iPad or, even more challengingly, on an iPhone, may sound daunting, but Textastic greatly simplifies this basic necessity. Many iOS code editors can start up an internal web server that other browsers.
